Codnor Castle's ancient ruins in Derbyshire date back to the 13th century when it was created by Norman knight William Peverel. The stone keep and bailey fortress is a Scheduled Ancient Monument overlooking the Erewash Valley. The castle site has public footpaths that lead up to it, with an information board about its history. This historical site is close to Jacksdale village in Ashfield.


How to get there
By car: 
Exit at junction 26 of the M1 and take the A610 exit to Nottingham/Ripley.
By train: Langley Mill train station (2.5 miles).
