Mill Lakes located in Bestwood Village is an area with beautiful countryside and plenty of wildlife. It is part of Bestwood Country Park and covers 150 acres with the water for the lakes running from the River Leen. The area is popular with walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and dog walkers, and the scenic 2.5 mile circular trail around the lakes is highly recommended for its views. This family-friendly destination is also an ideal spot for a picnic.

The country park that surrounds the lakes continues nearby on the other side of Bestwood Village offering the chance to visit historic places of interest. These include the Bestwood Colliery Winding Engine House that is the last remaining part of Bestwood Colliery, and Dynamo House, which was the former electrical sub-station serving the colliery. Learn about the 2.5 mile circular walking route for the Mill Lakes break free walk, where visitors can enjoy stunning countryside views as they stroll along the water and discover the area’s birds and wildlife. There is no fishing or swimming allowed in Mill Lakes and to protect wildlife it is asked that dogs are kept out of the water and under control at all times.

How to get there
By car: Exit at Junction 26 on the M1 and take the A6002 and B683 to Bestwood Village.
By train: Hucknall station (1.4 miles).
Parking: The lakes do not have their own car park. The nearest car park is at Bestwood Country Park car park, Bestwood Village, Nottingham, NG6 8UE.
