This £14m scheme envisages the regeneration of an underutilised town centre site for a housing-led development, delivering a gateway building which will transform the northern part of the town around Kirkby Plaza.
Commercial space will also be provided to broaden the appeal of the town centre and to the rear of the gateway building, development partners are working on the regeneration of the 'Pond Hole' site to deliver more town centre living accommodation.
The funding also supports the expansion of the highly successful Portland Pathways project into Kirkby. Pathways is a skills and employability initiative, working with employers to support people with learning difficulties and disabilities to access employment.
Apart from modernising the area this will also offer greater opportunities for community and cultural activities.
