West Kirkby Gateway

Kirkby Train Station

PROJECT STATUS: Under development phase
REGENERATION STRAND: Town Centres & High Streets
ADDRESS: Kirkby Train Station, Vernon Road, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottingham, NG17 8EJ

The development of the area around Kirkby Railway Station to create a thriving gateway area to the town will include a new pub and function space. Artist's impressions for the Kirkby gateway site were released in August 2023 and included what the modern space will look like offering indoor and outdoor seating.

The pub will be located on the land next to the car park at the train station and the design of the building will reflect the industrial heritage of the site, celebrating the history of the railway and its workers. Plans for the site will help regenerate the west side of Kirkby by introducing new facilities and opportunities for business, which will encourage more external investment into the town.

The project includes the station and surrounding area, as well as a site on the opposite side of Urban Road, of Lane End. At the station, a transport hub will be created with bus pull-ins and a new long-stay car park with electric vehicle charging and secure bicycle storage.

A gateway building will be located at the Lane End site that will have business start-up units at ground floor with residential units above.
