Testing for Gas monument

Silverhill Wood, Sutton in Ashfield, NG17 3JJ

The Testing for Gas monument is a commemorative bronze statue found at the summit of a trail route at Silverhill Wood. The famous memorial sculpture is of a Nottinghamshire miner, known locally as Dave, and includes a list on its base of the major collieries in the county that existed from 1819 until the early 2000s. The statue is located at one of the highest points in Nottinghamshire offering fantastic panoramic views across five counties. Visitors can marvel at the stunning countryside scenery that includes former mining villages, as well as historic locations such as Lincoln Cathedral, Bolsover Castle, and Hardwick Hall.
