Pleasley Pit Country Park is a reclaimed colliery site that provides a fantastic day out for people that love nature and history. The attraction is a Local Nature Reserve that has swans, dragonflies, and damselflies at the site's ponds. There are also plenty of wading birds, warblers, the occasional grass snake, and sheep. Visitors will also love the wildflowers in spring and the woodlands at this beautiful countryside location.
The mining history of Pleasley Pit is a fascinating one to learn about through the site's Coal Mining Museum that has a restored winding engine house and colliery buildings. Visitors can discover tools and equipment used by miners, see photographs, and learn about the stories of the workers and their families. There is a café at the country park and regular events and activities.
How to get there
By car: Leave M1 at exit 29 and continue on A617 to Pleasley.
By train: Mansfield Woodhouse station (3.8 miles) or Sutton Parkway station (4.8 miles).
